How the calculator works
Your household income is divided by the number of people in the household and by 365 to give income per person per day. It is then adjusted for inflation since 2021 and for differences in living costs between countries, using purchasing power parity, so it can be compared with everyone else on the same footing.
That figure is ranked against the World Bank's estimate of the global distribution of income and consumption in 2024, the latest year of measured estimates, in 2021 international dollars.
All global income comparisons carry real uncertainty. Household surveys tend to under-record the very highest incomes, and some countries measure spending rather than income. Treat results, especially in the top 1%, as best estimates.
